Welcome to Labor & Workforce Development Agency

Acting Secretary Hoffner’s Welcome Message

Welcome to the California Labor & Workforce Development Agency (LWDA), the only Agency in state government coordinating labor and employment programs for workers and businesses.

Right now there is no higher priority in California than getting our economy back on track and creating jobs. The LWDA is committed to ensuring that job-seekers, employees, and businesses have all the tools they need to successfully navigate through this difficult economy. This Agency is working hard to enhance the skills of California’s workforce and to expand access to the many training and apprenticeship programs that can potentially increase opportunities and income for California workers. Equally as important is ensuring that those eligible individuals in need of services like unemployment insurance, workers’ compensation, or disability benefits receive those benefits in a timely fashion.

The LWDA is committed to ensuring that California businesses and employees have a level playing field upon which to compete. Equally vital for a level playing field is fair, impartial and consistent enforcement of the laws. This Agency is firmly committed to ensuring that law-abiding employers and their workers are not victimized by others, who would violate the state’s labor, health, safety, and tax laws in order to gain a competitive advantage.

Within the LWDA are the Agricultural Labor Relations Board, California Business Investment Services, California Economic Strategy Panel, California Employment Development Department, California Unemployment Insurance Appeals Board, California Workforce Investment Board, Department of Industrial Relations, and Employment Training Panel.

California has the most diverse economy in the nation and we at LWDA are committed to providing the tools to help the economy grow. I hope you take a look at the rest of our Web site and see how we are helping to foster an environment that will assist California’s businesses and workers thrive.

Sincerely,

Douglas Hoffner
Acting Secretary
