In April 2005, Governor Schwarzenegger announced the California Nurse Education Initiative. Led by the California Labor & Workforce Development Agency, this initiative created a multi-agency taskforce to address California’s critical shortage of registered nurses. The taskforce involves policymakers from the University of California, California State University, California Community Colleges, California Health & Human Services Agency, State & Consumer Services Agency.
