Economic Strategy Panel: Regional Economies Project

Regional Forums

Preliminary Economic Base Report findings and initial industry “clusters of opportunity” analyses were presented at economic forums, one in each of the state's nine economic regions. The forums were hosted by local Workforce Investment Boards, in collaboration with economic development organizations and other partners. The purpose of forums was to present the results of the economic base and industry cluster analyses, discuss the methodology used to complete the analyses, and obtain participants' input to help identify industry clusters of opportunity for more in-depth study. Users of economic data and analyses were the primary targets to participate in these interactive regional forums.

At the forums, participants heard from noted economists about the region's changing economic base, and about emerging and significant industry clusters. A panel of employer representatives discussed challenges and opportunities in these cluster areas. Participants were provided with “how-to” information on the project's methodology, so they may improve their own use of the data. Participants then reviewed and commented on the information and methodologies, and provided their recommendations on which industry cluster should be chosen for more in-depth analysis. (See Participant Feedback Process for more information.)
