The staff provides a wide range of support services to the Panel. These services include handling meeting arrangements, assisting each of the Policy Committees, serving as the point of contact for most Panel business and communications, maintaining the Panel website, and preparing the biennial economic strategy report.

The staff also provides economic, analytic, and other expert consultative services. This responsibility includes a wide range of duties, such as preparing and critiquing economic data and studies, evaluating business climate conditions, advising on analytic techniques, coordinating interagency research projects, and assisting with program evaluations.

In addition, the staff prepare, award and manage consulting and other professional services contracts. They currently serve as contract manager for the California Regional Economies Project, a joint effort of the California Workforce Investment Board (CWIB) and the California Economic Strategy Panel. The Project is a detailed analysis of each regional economy in California -- and their key industry clusters -- that identifies structural economic changes and long-term trends. It is designed to provide the state's economic and workforce development system with detailed information on regional economies and labor markets.
