January 24, 2020

SACRAMENTO, CA – Following the California Employment Development Department’s (EDD) release of the state’s employment data from December, the California Labor Secretary, Julie A. Su issued the following statement:

“California continues to show strong job growth, with industry sectors such as professional and business services leading the way. The continuing job growth and low unemployment in California is one of the many reasons our state is the world’s fifth largest economy.

“Additionally, work in construction grew by 31,300 jobs over the last year. Governor Newsom’s commitment to invest and expand apprenticeships will help ensure more working people are in good jobs.

“With historic unemployment rates we have an opportunity to ensure low wage jobs in the care sector become higher quality jobs by focusing on wage growth and economic mobility for more workers across industries and spectrums.”
