Payroll Tax Obligations

The Employment Development Department (EDD) administers the collection, accounting, and auditing of the state’s payroll taxes. These include Unemployment Insurance, State Disability Insurance, Employment Training Tax, and Personal Income Tax.

Labor Laws

The California Labor Commissioner’s Office promotes economic justice through robust enforcement of labor laws. By combating wage theft, protecting workers from retaliation, and educating the public, the Labor Commissioner’s Office helps put earned wages into workers’ pockets and helps level the playing field for law-abiding employers.

In California, all workers are protected by labor laws regardless of their immigration status.

Unemployment Insurance, Disability Insurance, and Paid Family Leave

The EDD provides benefits if you are unemployed; are pregnant or have a non-work-related illness or injury; or need time off work to bond with a new child or care for a seriously ill family member.
